The purpose of this blog is to keep family and friends updated with the most recent news on Matthew. It will also document his biggest trial to date and serve as a reminder of how many people love and support him, and how much the Lord loves him when he has beat this terrible disease.

And So It Begins...

Matthew has been having back problems for the past two weeks and has gone to the chiropractor a few times for the pain. On Friday night around 9:30PM, Matthew was rolling around in pain on the living room floor, so my dad took him to the emergency room at Mercy Gilbert. In the ER, they drew his blood and discovered that his platelets were very low, so they did an xray and a CAT scan found a large mass by his heart.
Gilbert Mercy sent him to the Phoenix Children's Hospital in Phoenix, where he spent the night in the ICU. The mass by his heart is the size of a tennis ball and is displacing the veins that pump blood into his heart. It's not serious enough that it is messing with his heart, but it will cause problems if it grows any larger.
