20 Days Later...

This morning the nurse came in and told my parents that Matthew's cell counts still weren't high enough for him to go home. I guess they had to be at 250, and he was at 110. He took it really hard again because yesterday they were certain today was going to be the day. Later Matthew went on a walk, rode a stationary bike in the therapy room for a mile, and then went on another walk. Around 4 the nurses came back in to take blood again, and by 5:30 they had the results. His counts were 330! We were all so excited! Today was the perfect day for him to come home too because it is the season premier of The Office, one of his most favorite shows of all time. So...to celebrate his homecoming and the new episode, I made an office inspired welcome home display. When he walked in he sat down on the couch and started quoting the episode that my display was from. It was so funny because he knew it all word for word.

I can't even believe how good he is doing compared to how he was. He also doesn't remember any of his surgeries. He didn't even know that his port was inside of his body until today. He thought it was just a needle with something around the bottom of it stuck onto his skin. I'm so glad he doesn't remember though because it was all so bad. It is truly a miracle. Thank you for all of your prayers. There is no doubt in my mind that without all of the prayers and support we have been receiving from everyone, Matthew would not have had such a quick recovery. There is still a long way to go, but the progress we have seen so far is truly amazing.

I just need to say that it is SO nice to have my family home with me all at once. It would be cool to have Chad here too, but he is doing something way more important than watching The Office. The new episode was great and we are enjoying our night so much. Finally life is starting to feel normal again.

WELCOME HOME.

Jim Halpert:   Are you kidding?
Dwight Schrute:   Well I'm not done yet.
Jim Halpert:   Dwight, this, fits in the palm of my hand. You haven't blown them up enough. Why have you chosen brown and gray balloons?
Dwight Schrute:   They match the carpet.
Jim Halpert:   What is that? [points to Dwight's banner] "It is your birthday" period.
Dwight Schrute:   It's a statement of fact.
Jim Halpert:   Not even an exclamation point?
Dwight Schrute:   This is more professional! It's not like she discovered a cure for cancer!
Jim Halpert:   I can't believe how bad this looks.
Dwight Schrute:   Are you trying to hurt my feelings? Because if so, you are succeeding. Fortunately, my feelings regenerate at twice the speed of a normal man's.
Jim Halpert:   Ok, good then.

Sophie was so happy to see him. She was glued to his side for the longest time.

This guy, Michael, is a teacher in the school that is inside the hospital. When my mom was talking to him she mentioned that Matthew was really sad because he didn't get to come home to watch The Office season premier. He asked who Matthew's favorite character was, and later that day he came in with this really cool drawing that he did of Dwight. He said that he and his wife watch The Office too.

He's holding a beet!
